Choose a repeatable baseline

A useful experiment starts with a record of the current experience. Our checklist begins with screenshots of important pages, the settings in use and a short list of visitor tasks. Keep a restorable backup and use a staging environment where available.

Work in small steps

Change one group of settings at a time. After each change, repeat the same tasks: open the menu, submit a test form, search, sign in and complete a test checkout if the site sells products. Include mobile layouts and pages with third-party embeds.

Use measurement to diagnose

A Lighthouse score can vary with the conditions of a run. Chrome recommends thinking about performance as a distribution rather than relying on one number. Run comparable tests and examine the individual metrics and findings before deciding whether a change helped.

Keep the rollback simple

Record what you changed and how to restore it. If a visitor task breaks, return to the previous settings and isolate the change before trying again. This checklist is our suggested workflow; it does not imply that a plugin can automatically detect every functional regression.
