Identify what moved
Google’s CLS guidance highlights images without dimensions, injected content and web fonts as common sources of unexpected movement. A page may look stable at first and still shift later during a visit.
Allocate space early
Give images width and height information and reserve appropriate room for embeds or other content that arrives later. Avoid inserting a new block above content the visitor is already reading without considering how that affects its position.
Test your actual templates
Our suggested audit covers an article, an archive and a product page. Observe the first load, then scroll and use interactive elements. Include cookie notices, promotional banners and embedded media in your checklist; the base template is only part of the experience.
Compare more than screenshots
A screenshot records a final state. Watch the loading sequence and use browser performance tools to locate shifts. Keep a note of the responsible element and the reserved-space change you made, then repeat the same journey.
